This reserve wine is named in honour of my Great Grandfather who once farmed this ruggedly beautiful piece of land that is now Amherst Winery. 2019 was a warm, dry year in the Pyrenees resulting in low yields of outstanding quality grapes. The fruit was selectively hand picked, wild yeast fermented and then basket pressed. The wine was then left to mature on quality French oak for nearly 3 years. Dense and dark in appearance, the wine shows aromas of blueberry, dark cherry and clove. The palate is concentrated and complex with layers of dark fruits, middle eastern spices and mocha interwoven with fine grained tannins. It is a limited release of just 108 dozen and only the 5th reserve shiraz that has been produced in our 33 year history.
