When we meet with our farmers and hear about the hard work and passion that goes into raising amazing quality cattle, it makes us even more determined to value every part of the animal and that’s exactly what we’ve been able to achieve with our new product range – hides with provenance!

Unique hides from Speckle Park, Hereford and Hereford X cattle

Following processing on farm we have our Provenir hides skilfully tanned by the team at Greenhalgh Tannery, near Ballarat.  Greenhalgh’s Tannery is a family owned and operated tannery which has been operating for over 140 years, tanning premium quality saddlery and craft leather in much the same manner as previous generations.

Fifth generation Greenhalgh brothers, Bruce and Ross, together with their expert team utilise many of the traditional tannery practices of their forefathers, together with the current technological advances of tanning.

Greenhalgh’s Tannery has been operating continuously from its premises since 1865. It’s a vegetable based tannery, meaning wattle bark rather than a chemicals are used to add preservative and pliable qualities to the raw hide.  This traditional method takes a great deal of knowledge, skill and time, with the hide tanning process taking over three months to prepare, rather than the 72 hours of a chemical tanning process.

Our first release are hides from Llandillio in NSW and present a range of fantastic colours and patterns from three different breeds including Speckle Park, Hereford and Hereford X.

True provenance and full traceability via our QR codes

Each of our Hides with Provenance is etched with a unique QR code linked to the RFID (radio-frequency identification) number used to identify the cattle.

Scan the QR code to learn more about your hide, meet the farmer that raised the cattle, and learn about where and how the cattle were raised.

To scan the code simply open the camera app on your iPhone or a QR app on Android.  Frame the unique QR code and click on the URL link to access our digital traceability platform.

This Hereford-cross hide is what’s known as a Black Baldy – a cross between the well known Black Angus and classic red coated Hereford.  In some light this hide can look pure black, while at another angle the light shines though to show the rich red brown colouring. This hide would look stunning in a modern apartment or architecturally designed home with dark features, or as a welcome black / brown accent in a light filled space.
