In a world where dietary trends seem to change as often as the weather, the carnivore diet has emerged as one of the most intriguing approaches to eating, and one of the oldest.
What is the Carnivore Diet?
The carnivore diet, as the name suggests, is a dietary approach that involves consuming animal products exclusively. This means that followers of the carnivore diet eat meat, fish, eggs, and certain dairy products while completely eliminating plant-based foods from their meals. The rationale behind this diet is rooted in the knowledge that our ancestors subsisted on animal foods. The carnivore diet is very focused on natural animal proteins and requires the removal of modern highly processed foods – which have been associated with many of the health issues we face today.
Potential Benefits:
- Weight Loss: By cutting out carbohydrates and focusing on protein and fats, many individuals have observed significant weight loss on the Carnivore Diet.
- Mental Clarity: Advocates of the Carnivore Diet report that by eliminating plant-based foods leads to improved mental clarity and focus
- Simplified Eating: Following the Carnivore Diet can simplify meal planning and preparation, as it eliminates the need to navigate complex ingredient lists and dietary restrictions. Simple and natural.
Importance of sourcing and traceability
The benefits of the carnivore diet are based on the consumption of animals that are grass-fed and grass-finished. It is important to ensure that the protein has not been factory farmed or in a feed-lot – this is principally due to the animals consuming man-made processed feeds. Hence traceability and provenance of the meat is essential for ensuring quality, safety, as well as the farming sustainability and animal welfare considerations. Understanding the origin of the meat supports informed choices, promotes sustainability, and upholds animal welfare standards, all of which Provenir provides and leads the nation in. Provenir has a range of carnivore diet boxes that have been specifically curated to include everything needed to commence a balanced carnivore diet including offal – the nutrient superfoods!
It’s offally good for you
One of the key elements of a full carnivore diet is offal e.g. heart, liver, kidneys. Whilst these parts of an animal are revered in overseas cuisine – they are generally maligned in Aussie / English cuisine. Offal is jam packed with essential nutrients and micronutrients – which is required for a balanced carnivore diet. However, many take some time to adjust to the stronger flavours of offal. That’s why Provenir have supported our carnivore friends by making offal mince and offal sausages that blend all the key offal with our grass-fed mince to make a milder flavoured option. If this is still too daunting and you’re keen to give the carnivore diet a try, Provenir has the ultimate solution – our range of freeze dried offal capsules. Simply take a few capsules a day of our range of Vital Origin supplements and you receive all the essential nutrients required. How easy is that!
Risks and Considerations:
However the Carnivore Diet is not without its risks. Critics argue that eliminating plant foods can lead to deficiencies in essential nutrients, however almost all of these nutritional deficiencies can be compensated for by consuming animal offal – which is a key part of a full Carnivore Diet. But as always, you seek professional advice if you have any concerns about under-taking the carnivore diet and individuals with health conditions should proceed with caution.
