First-generation farmer Tom, with roots in Ocean Grove, and Sarah, raised on ‘Wirrinourt,’ found their way to Chatsworth House in 2020. A family of five, they’ve embraced their role as custodians, adding new chapters to the estate’s rich history.

Sustainable Livestock Management:

With 200-300 Angus and AngusX cattle, the Whinneys prioritize ethical farming. Using Low Stress Stock handling and regenerative grazing principles, they ensure the well-being of their livestock while contributing to environmental health. Additionally, 15,000 composite ewes play a role in the prime lamb market.

Nurturing Land and Soil:

Situated along the Hopkins River, Chatsworth House faces diverse weather. The Whinneys focus on soil health, carbon levels, and water management. Embracing a Soil Carbon Project, they’re actively enhancing water retention and limiting chemical usage to maintain a healthy ecosystem.

Looking Ahead:

Not content with the status quo, the Whinneys are exploring Natural Sequence Farming techniques to further regenerate the landscape. Their commitment extends beyond Chatsworth House, hoping their journey inspires others to embrace sustainable practices for a brighter tomorrow.
