A good dish can turn a casual meal into a memorable experience. This week we look at three Asian recipes that can be served as simple but delicious centrepieces for an evening with loved ones or the family.
Asian beef recipes can have a nutritious impact beyond the table if you choose locally sourced natural ingredients prepared and processed with health in mind.
If you’re preparing a beef recipe for your loved ones, you’ll want to use the best ingredients, like Provenir’s grass-fed, grass-finished beef and all-natural grass-fed broth with no unwanted additives.
Why are grass-fed beef ingredients essential for beef recipes?
These three Asian recipes call for Provenir’s grass-fed beef mince, diced or stir-fry beef. So why should you use grass-fed beef and avoid grain-fed beef when making these dishes? In addition to the outstanding flavour that grass-fed boasts, these ingredients will bring health and environmental benefits to your beef stir-fry recipe.
Let’s take a closer look at your meat choices’ impact.
Health benefits
Grass-fed beef is leaner than grain-fed alternatives, so it is ideal for those who want to avoid excessive dietary fat. In addition, the natural, plant-based diet of the source cattle gives the meat twice the amount of antioxidants and anti-carcinogenic compounds.
Grass-fed beef is rich in vitamins A, B, and E and omega-3 and 6 fatty acids. It also has high amounts of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), known for its anti-cancer and anti-diabetes properties.
What do these properties mean for your health?
- Grass-fed beef is lean, so it can help promote weight loss.
- The lack of additives creates a healthy digestive system.
- The antioxidants help fight inflammation, which can be the root cause of many types of chronic pain.
- The collagen in grass-fed beef is good for skin and hair health.
Environmental benefits
Provenir’s local approach further reduces the impact on the environment.
Firstly, the meat gets processed on the farm, reducing animal stress and negating the carbon footprint associated with transporting live cattle to a processing facility.
Secondly, by working with local farmers, emissions are limited when transporting the meat to the butchery after processing. This is important as the farming industry significantly contributes to global emissions.
Finally, every meat pack has a QR code that informs the consumer of the whole story from paddock to plate. This level of transparency gives you confidence that you know exactly how your meat was raised, processed, and transported.
Added benefits of Provenir beef broth products
The grass-fed meat is undoubtedly the most essential part of any Asian beef recipe. However, you should not overlook the supporting elements in these recipes, which can enhance the health benefits.
Provenir’s range of beef broth products has the same qualities and follows the same production values as grass-fed beef. In addition to using the same local, grass-fed, hormone-free meats, Provenir follows a slow-cooking process to retain nutrients and flavour.
Provenir avoids preservatives when packaging the beef broth, so you get a natural, chemical-free product. In addition, standard refrigerated shipping ensures freshness, whether you purchase in-store or meat online.
Our three healthy Asian-style beef recipes to cook up
Mongolian Beef
In this classic Asian dish, we swapped sugar with rice malt syrup to bring sweetness to the recipe without the high fructose or calories count.
We also use our The Best Broth – Roasted Beef Broth in this delicious recipe. This roasted beef broth is slowly cooked with traditional Asian ingredients like lemongrass, coriander stalks and ginger.
Mongolian Beef
Time
- Preparation: 1 h 15 min
- Cooking: 10 min
- Ready in: 2 h 30 min
Ingredients
Marinate
- 1 Provenir Grass-finished Lean Diced Beef
- 2 teaspoons Vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons Soy sauce
- 2 tablespoon Corn flour
Sauce
- 4 tablespoons Rice Malt Syrup
- 1/2 cup Provenir Roasted Beef Broth (or hot water)
- 1/2 cup Soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon Ginger
- 2 teaspoons Fresh chilli (Optional)
- 4 cloves Galic
- 2 tablespoon Corn flour
- 4 Spring onions
- Rice (to serve)
Instructions
- Combine the beef pieces with 1 teaspoon oil, 1 teaspoon soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch. Marinate for 1 hour. The beef should still be quite moist after it has marinated. If it looks too dry, add a tablespoon of water to it.
- Next, toss the marinated beef pieces in the remaining 1/4 cup of cornstarch until lightly coated.
- In a small bowl, mix rice malt syrup and the Provenir roasted beef broth until it is mixed together. Mix in 1/4 cup soy sauce. The saltiness of various soy sauce brands varies, so give the sauce a taste, and adjust the amounts of rice malt syrup/soy sauce/water/broth to your own taste.
- Heat 1/3 cup vegetable oil in the wok over high heat. Just before the oil starts to smoke, spread the beef pieces evenly in the wok, and sear for 1 minute (depending upon the heat of your wok). Turn over and let the other side sear for another 30 seconds. Remove to a sheet pan. Tilt it slightly to let the oil drain to one side (lean it on a cookbook or cutting board). The beef should be seared with a crusty coating.
- Drain the oil from the wok, leaving 1 tablespoon behind, and turn the heat to medium-high. Add the ginger and dried chili peppers, if using. After about 15 seconds, add the garlic. Stir for another 10 seconds and add the premixed sauce.
- Let the sauce simmer for about 2 minutes and slowly stir in the cornstarch slurry mixture. Cook until the sauce has thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon.
- Add the beef and scallions and toss everything together for another 30 seconds. There should be almost no liquid, as the sauce should be clinging to the beef. If you still have sauce, increase the heat slightly and stir until thickened. Plate and serve with steamed rice!
Sichuan Beef
An old Chinese favourite Asian is quick and easy to cook; it’s the perfect mid-meal to quickly cook up when you have worked well past your finishing time.
We recommend swapping out sugar, the traditional sweeter in this dish, with rice malt syrup to reduce the calories and fructose count.

- Cooking: 20 min
- Ready in: 30 min

- 1 tablespoon Ginger (minced)
- 2 Spring onions (use white part only)
- 1 tablespoon Hoisin sauce
- 3 tablespoons Chili paste (chili sauce, as needed)

- 1/2 teaspoon Sugar (or rice malt syrup)

- Heat remaining 6 tablespoons of oil in the wok over medium-high to high heat. When the oil is hot, add the beef.
- Stir-fry for approximately 10 minutes, until the beef is crispy and dark brown and chewy (you will hear the beef sizzle as it dries out).
- Splash the beef with the rice wine or dry sherry during the later stages of cooking.
- Push the beef up to the sides and drain all but 2 tablespoons from the wok. Add the bean sauce and chili paste or sauce mixture, and stir-fry for a few seconds.
- Then add the ginger and scallions. Stir-fry for a few seconds, until aromatic, then return the carrots to the wok.
- Stir in the sugar and the roasted Szechuan peppercorns. Taste and adjust seasonings if desired.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Thai Beef Larb
This delicious Asian dish is an excellent meal for young families, especially kids who love to eat with their fingers. Serve the Thai Beef Larb in ice-burg or cos lettuce cups with fresh herbs, or serve with sliced and diced raw veggies in a bowl.
If there are nut allergies in the household, one can use our beef tallow to replace the peanut oil. Beef tallow has a high cooking temperature similar to peanut oil, replicating the quick stir-fry cooking process in this recipe.
